Premier League: End of Season Superlatives
Wrapping up the Premier League season with our awards. Plus happy Champions League Final day everyone.
Welcome to June folks, and happy Champions League Final day. We’ve been MIA for the last couple of weeks, we apologize for our absence.
In that time, City wrapped up the league on the final day thanks to Phil Foden and Rodri, their two standout players this season. Arsenal pushed them all the way but fell just short by two points, classic. It will be a long summer for that pain to set in for Arsenal supporters like Wade and El Frijol.
Fortunately, there’s plenty of football this summer. We’ve got international tournaments starting with the Euros kicking off June 14th, as well as Copa America starting on June 20th, and then summer Olympics. Unfortunately, FOX has the rights to both of the Euros and Copa America tournaments, so we’re going to have to struggle through subpar coverage, analysis, and production. We’ll do our best to supplement that coverage here at Chi Chi Football.Â
And during all of these tournaments there will of course be plenty of transfer speculation and news. We’ll keep an eye on all the movement and keep our followers updated with the big moves over the summer.
It’s already been a hectic start to the end of season activity with plenty of clubs making moves for new managers. Liverpool fans like myself are in our Slot era, Chelsea have hired Enzo Maresca from Leiceister City, Brighton are still looking for a manger, and Vincent Kompany has failed upwards by snagging the job at Bayern Munich while leaving Burnley to rot in the Championship.
Make sure you follow along with us this summer to stay up to date. Plus, we have some exclusive and behind the scenes content during the upcoming Premier League tune up games during their American preseason tour.Â
Without further ado, this week’s post we’ll be revealing Chi Chi and Play Off’s combined Premier League Superlatives. As always let us know why our opinions are wrong and yours are right in the comments.Â
Premier League Team of the Season
Bench: Pickford, Ødegaard, Akanji, D. Luiz, B. Silva, Son, Isak, Gabriel, Eze
Note from Chi Chi: Salah deserves to be on the bench here, but Play Off was adamant about not including him. Just wanted to clear that up.
Note from Play Off: He’s right but Sarah almost cost me a fantasy EPL title. Banished.
Premier League Player of the Season
It’s hard to pick against a guy who literally hasn’t lost a Premier League game in well over a year. He’s the steady heart beat of this City team, when he’s not in the side they struggle and even look lost. The Spaniard is also insanely clutch helping fill the void that Gündoğan left with big goals and assists in key moments. Rodri registered eight goals and nine assists in the league. That’s better than a lot of attacking midfielders in most seasons.
Be wary though, Chi Chi did see some fatigue in those legs, with the upcoming Euros tournament it’s possible Rodri could be on the decline. But Chi Chi he’s only 27. This is true, but the guy has been run into the ground over the last nine years playing a total of 29,452 minutes, not including international tournaments. We’re not saying the decline is for sure happening next season, but Chi Chi is watching his legs closely.
Young Player of the Season
Can’t lie, Chi Chi clowned Tim Howard when he had Cole Palmer as his player of the season as Chelsea sat 12th., but the mouth breather did impress in his first real season of first team football. An impressive 22 goals and 11 assists for the young gun proved that maybe even Boehly and Co. can get it right from time to time. Chelsea ended up finishing 6th in large part thanks to Cole Palmer’s heroics.
Manager of the Season
Honestly, lots of deserving options here: Arteta, Iraola, O’Neil, Ten Hag… really could have gone to any of them. But Pep did it once again. He propelled his team to an unbelievable run in the league, avoiding defeat since December 6th, 2023, on their way to a record breaking 4th consecutive league title.
Signing of the Season
Fair play to Rice, he lived up to his price tag. Rice started the season playing as a defensive midfielder before being freed up to move higher up the pitch as more of a box-to-box midfielder. He started to show signs of his quality with that change where he bagged eight goals and seven assists in the league this season. He was a machine all season, covering just about every blade of grass. But let’s not forget: he’s won more trophies with West Ham.
Flop of the Season
No explanation needed here. Maybe Mason Mount can stay healthy next season, although it’s not looking good with Ten Hag’s seemingly gruelling training regiments. The guy’s got them on the Tiger Woods Navy SEAL training program. As for Tonali, he’s probably got a bright future as a front line worker at Chipotle.
Premier League Picks: Final Results
And lastly, the final standings of our Premier League Picks for the season.
Shoutout to Play Off for throwing for content on the final week. He knew Chi Chi really needed that with Klopp leaving. In case you missed it, Play Off selected 3-3 draws in every match except the Liverpool and Wolves game where he picked Liverpool. There were no draws in Matchweek 38.
Everyone please send good vibes and prayers to Play Off as his beloved Borussia Dortmund prepare to face off against the satanic cult that is Real Madrid Football Club. Everyone wrote Inter off last year but they should have won against City if it weren’t for Lukaku’s donkey finishing. Niclas Füllkrug this is your moment. Or Marco Reus… that would be all-time scenes.
You can follow along with us on YouTube, (Chi Chi Football) Twitter (@ChiChiMemes), and Instagram (@chichimemesfc) throughout the weekend and season. Good luck to Borussia Dortmund today, we are all the Yellow Wall today.
